Gabriela Fabrowska was born in Warsaw, Poland. She attended Philosophy & Sociology Department, University of Warsaw, and received a Masters degree in sociology with honours. She was contributing on a freelance basis to the film programme of the independent Cultural Centre “Rainbow” in Warsaw, showcasing animations produced in Art Schools of Warsaw, Krakow and Lodz. For two years after the graduation she worked in advertising and film production in Warsaw. Since 2001 she lives in London, working as a freelance photographer and workshop leader. In 2012 she graduated from the London College of Communication, with a Master degree in Photography.

Gabriela is a visual artist working mostly with constructed photography, surveying dialectic of binary oppositions. Conflict or coexistence of figurative versus literal and internal versus external are her recurring themes. She explores digital and analogue ways of making an image, using a camera, darkroom, computer, scanner or all at once.
Fabrowska’s inspirations and influences come from a variety of sources: literature, art, science and are as diverse as a serenity of Hiroshi Sugimoto seascapes and absurd humour of Erwin Wurm One Minute Sculptures.
Language is her important source of inspiration. She explores a crossover between linguistic and visual playing with idioms and an on-going interest in metaphors. The practice approaches feminist critique, using a specific gender experience of craft. She is interested in reflection on cultural forms by reinterpretation of artefacts and clichés.
